Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly FG Max Orange Abyss Silver
15 March 2009
The Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly Max Orange/Abyss/Silver is the revolutionary boot that the world of football has been waiting for. As a follow on to the Mercurial Vapor SL, with its carbon fibre sole, the Superfly has taken its inspiration from running spikes.
The new Mercurial Vapor Superfly football boot features flywire technology that surrounds the foot but gives it support at all times. This method was first used in track shoes that headlined at the Beijing Olympics last year and was invented by Jay Meschter.
The Superfly is only available in FG for the initial launch colour of Max Orange/Abyss/Silver and will be worn by World Footballer of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo at its on pitch launch on March 11th.The new boot does not have a lace cover like the Vapor SL but has clearly exposed laces and is extremely light at just under 200 grams depending on the size. The lightweight construction of the boot is helped by the carbon fibre sole of the boot and the Teijin synthetic leather upper of the boot..
The innovative Nike Flywire technology gives strength by having strategically positioned filaments, which act like cables on a suspension bridge to give the player support exactly where the foot needs it when performing at the very highest level. Basically the Flywire technology makes use of a strong Vectran thread which is arranged in a fan-shaped pattern at anchor points around the football boot. This gives the boot extreme strength and support. By having this strength and support the boot can be made lighter by the taking away of materials that only add weight to the boot. The Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly will be the lightest production made boot in the world.
